Short tandem repeat (STR) typing are widely used methods for DNA testing applications. Following PCR with different fluorescent primers, the STR amplicons are separated by capillary electrophoresis and genotyped by comparison to an allelic ladder. It is commonly used for cell lines authentication (see separately for more info), samples identification, paternity confirmation, tissue transplantation, forensic DNA analysis and more.
