Bruker – 9.4 T MRI

Introduction

The Bruker BioSpec 94/20 9.4 T functional micro MRI provides small animal (rodent) MRI solutions for preclinical and molecular MR imaging research.  The system enables acquisition of anatomical images, parametric mapping, and functional imaging. The system is equipped with isoflurane anesthesia and monitoring system enabling respiratory/cardiac gating. Various coils are available for imaging including surface transmit/receive coil with high signal-to-noise ratio but limited coverage (20 mm diameter with a maximum depth of 5mm), volume quadrature transmit/receive coil for homogenous measurements of the whole body. The fMRI Research Facility has been generously donated by Raphael and Miriam Mishan of Matawan, NJ.

Applications

  • Angiography
  • Cardiac imaging
  • Dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE) following contrast agent administration
  • Diffusion-Weighted Imaging (DWI) and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) for diffusion mapping and tractography
  • Functional brain imaging
  • Relaxometry – T1 and T2 measurements and mapping

Acquisition

Acquisition is performed with ParaVision 5.1 software.

Analysis

ParaVision 5.1 software provides a wide range of image processing tools: visualization, ROI measurements, mapping and more. In addition, there is an option to export DICOM images and import them to the BCF MATLAB based MRI-tool  or other free DICOM software (K-PACS, etc.). Functional data can be analyzed in LINUX environment using FMRIB Software Library (FSL) and Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) tools.
