Orbitrap IQ-X Tribrid

Orbitrap IQ-X Tribrid

The Orbitrap™ IQ-X™ Tribrid™ Mass Spectrometer is a high-end analytical instrument developed by Thermo Fisher Scientific for small-molecule analysis and the identification of unknown compounds.

It combines three mass analyzers in a single system: a quadrupole, a linear ion trap and an Orbitrap™ mass analyzer. This Tribrid architecture supports multi-stage fragmentation (MSn) with complementary fragmentation techniques (CID and HCD), producing information-rich spectra for confident structural elucidation. Intelligent data acquisition tools, including AcquireX™ and Real-Time Library Search, focus fragmentation on the most relevant compounds and trigger MSn scans on the fly.

At our center, the Orbitrap IQ-X complements the Orbitrap Exploris™ 240 and Q Exactive™: it is used for in-depth annotation of metabolites and lipids in untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics studies, structural characterization of lipids and other small molecules, and identification of unknown compounds.
