Untargeted Metabolomics
Untargeted metabolomics is a global and comprehensive analysis, encompassing the measurement of all metabolites in a sample, including unknown targets. It is the method of choice for obtaining a global view of metabolic phenotypes, hypothesis generation and identifying dysregulated metabolic pathways.
The center employs Compound Discoverer 3.3 and LipidSearch software from Thermo Fisher Scientific for untargeted analysis.
The bulk of the workload in untargeted analyses typically occurs post data acquisition and basic processing stages. This phase demands expertise and knowledge beyond the fundamental training needed for targeted analysis. Although we provide training on untargeted analysis software, it necessitates active involvement from the center’s staff throughout the process, including additional LCMS runs for identification purposes, among other tasks. Consequently, untargeted analyses will only be undertaken collaboratively, in addition to the fees associated with instrument runs.
